Why File A Complaint?
Because if the NHTSA receives enough complaints they will pressure the car company, Ford in my case, to issue a RECALL. If the car company issues a recall they will reimburse you for the cost of repairing your door(s) or offer to replace those bad door latches before they fail. This is an expensive repair! On my car $300 per door.
While almost any car make and model can encounter an occasional broken or defective door latch, a great many Ford Fiesta doors are exhibiting premature failures. Yes, “failures” of 1 or more car doors on the same vehicle. And some multi-failures are almost simultaneous.
One commenter here claimed her Ford dealership told her they had around 70 Ford Fiesta’s so far with broken defective car doors that will not latch closed or stay shut. My small town dealer did not place a number on it but said they were seeing a sudden surge of Ford Fiesta’s with broken car door latches; both in and out of warranty. My Fiesta has 2 broken back side doors that will not close and it’s less than 3 years old. It only had 35,772 miles on it when both doors broke. They both failed within 12 hours of each other.
Fiesta car doors are failing so frequently right now that the door parts, the latch mechanisms, are on national backorder at the time of this post.
